Digital RMG Factory Mapping in Bangladesh
A MoU Signing Ceremony has been organized named “Digital RMG Factory Mapping in Bangladesh” on 15th December 2016 at BGMEA Complex, Kawran Bazar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It has organized by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
BRAC University (BRACU) & Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) have signed a groundbreaking agreement. It is to support the collection of credible and comprehensive data about the RMG industry. Also it will be to prepare a publicly accessible interactive online nap of the industry.
The digital mapping program will be implemented by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), BRAC University. It will be coordinated by BRAC USA with lead funding from C&A Foundation and anticipated additional co-founders.
The objective of this program is to provide accurate, credible and update RMG factory information to industry stakeholders. It is in a manner that enhances confidence in the ability of the sector to contribute to equitable development in Bangladesh.
Without having credible, industry-wide data on the number of factories, including subcontract factories the number of workers, factory locations and much more challenges will remain across the Bangladesh Ready Made garment (RMG) industry.
The program is the first of its kind to map RMG factories across all garment-producing districts in Bangladesh. It will provide a detailed industry-wide database of factories, including subcontractors, on an interactive, digital map. In addition to collecting factory names and location, the map will also feature information such as number of workers, product type, export country, certifications, and brand customers etc. The program will be guided by a multi-stakeholder Project Advisory Committee, including representatives of workers, NGOs, donors, employers, and industry associations, among others
