Textile Youth Leadership Summit 2018 Held
Bangladesh Textile Today, a publication of Amin & Jahan Corporation Ltd., organized ‘Textile Youth Leadership Summit 2018’ with the theme: “Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Transformation” on the day of its 10th anniversary on 12 January 2018.
In this connection, a colorful ‘Inauguration Ceremony’ was held at 3.00pm on the day at Council Hall & Multipurpose Hall, Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh Kakrail, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Young professionals are the driving force of any industry. In apparel and textile industry, it is inevitable. To build a network between academia and industry this summit will play a significant role.
Speakers at the summit said that mentality of buyers to offer lower price to Bangladesh has to be changed through to value addition, decrease lead-time etc. We have to prove ourselves as capable and efficient. We should not produce only 4 to 5 items or we should not depend on foreign designer. They will give order and we just fulfil their order, it will not good for the industry. Rather we have to design by our own designer, we have to produce more items like medi-textile, technical textile, sportswear etc. and we have to add value on our products.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz, one of the brightest young stars in Bangladesh cricket, was present in the summit who inspired the textile youth to represent Bangladesh in the world.
Engr. Shafiqur Rahman, President, Institution of Textile Engineers & Technologists (ITET) was present as the chief guest where Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor, BUFT and Executive Editor of Bangladesh Textile Today, chaired the function.
Engr. Shafiqur Rahman praised the organizer to organize such an exceptional summit and expressed his hope that this kinds of summit will help apparel and textile industry to attain its 50 billion target by 2021.
“The government wants to turn Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041. It is not possible without contribution of apparel industry,” he said.
“Country’s economy is now mostly dependent on the apparel sector, the country has huge lack of skilled professionals including textiles engineers. For this reason, the sector has to spend billions of dollars on employing foreign experts.”
To survive in the global competition, there is no alternative to skill development,” he added. He urged the participants to develop their skill in line with the industrial demand.
Prof Ayub Nabi Khan said that India has planned aggressively to compete Bangladesh. So we need to prepare ourselves. Confidence and hard work are key to success. Our young generation has to be more confident and hard working as we can be successful.
Mohammad Hatem, Ex-Vice President, BKMEA and 1st Vice President, EAB, said that Government is supporting as much it can through to expanding textile education, establishing textile university, colleges and institutions. 100 special economic zones have been made which will increase both national and foreign investment to the textile and RMG industry.
The summit was experiential learning space and networking hotspot where young leaders were meet together, learn from one another, shared experience and bring forward fresh ideas on how young minds can effectively participate in leadership and development in Textile sector.
