ASK Trade & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd is organizing 2nd edition of International Tradeshow on Machinery & Components Dyes & Chemicals, Accessories and Allied Products for Leather, Footwear and Leather Goods sector- LEATHERTECH BANGLADESH 2014 to be held during 27 and 29 November 2014 at Bangabandu International Conference Centre in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

It is a comprehensive International Technology & Allied Products tradeshow for the Bangladesh Leather, Footwear & Leather Goods Industries. Nearly 100 Exhibitors from India, China, Turkey, Japan, Italy Singapore, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh to showcase Leather & Footwear Machinery & Components, Dyes & Chemicals, Accessories and Allied Products at this international event. This international event is targeted at the entire leather industry value chain in the country.

In Bangladesh the leather industry is well established and ranked fourth in terms of earning foreign exchange. In consideration of being a value added sector the (Government of Bangladesh (GoB), Ministry of Industry (MoI) has declared it as a priority sector. According to Export Promotion Bureau of Bangladesh for the Financial Year 2011-12, the leather sector grew by 17.5 per cent and earned $765 million in revenue. Of this $434.8 million was attributed from leather products, accounting for approximately 57 percent of the total revenue. The leather sector includes 220 tanneries, 3,500 MSMEs .The sector generates direct and indirect employment for about 850,000 people, including a significant number of women, particularly in the leather products industries.

Amongst the various shortcomings identified as a hindrance to the optimal growth of the sector, information and availability of technology & machinery for modernisation and up-gradation is identified as a key shortcoming. LEATHERTECH Bangladesh 2014 with nearly 100 exhibitors showcasing latest technology and processes from across the world bridge the information gap.

Participating includes a Pavilion from India and China. Indian pavilion is expected to have nearly 50 companies participating at the show through a pavilion of Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and
Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association (IFCOMA). The increasing growth of the industry and boosting investment in the sector would definitely make the sector the second highest export industry in the next five to seven years, that the annual production of 5000 crore taka from tanners and a further 1600-1800 crore taka from footwear and leather goods industries will automatically increase by seven to eight thousand crore taka in the coming years with the existing infrastructure in place. But, if the relocation of tanneries is successful, the growth will be much bigger and would be worth Tk 20,000 crore, as estimated by the experts.
